Arians has made his displeasure about the NFL and NFLPA more apparent over the last month, saying the two sides are trying to “steal” his franchise from him.
The Arizona Cardinals owner also has said the league needs to be held accountable for the issues plaguing the NFL, a sentiment that has been echoed by several owners.
Arians and his owners are also trying to get the Arizona Cardinals out of the NFL by holding them accountable for issues related to concussions.
On Friday, Arians said on ESPN Radio that the NFL needs to do a better job protecting the health of players.
“You know, this league has a terrible track record of keeping the players safe, you know, they’ve had two concussions this year, a year ago, two years ago, the last time I checked, there was not a single concussion, but they’re still paying these guys, they’re paying these players, and they’ve got to do it right, and I’m not going to sit here and be a fool,” Arians told the ESPN radio station.
“I’m not just going to be a fan, you want to be an owner, you wanna be a leader.
I’ve been there.
I know what happens when you put your foot in your mouth, you’re gonna get a lot of criticism.”
As for Arians, he said the NFL’s handling of the players’ concussions “is not working.”
“I think the NFL is doing a terrible job, and that’s why it’s time to take them out,” he said.
“And the way I see it, this is a situation that is going to come down to the players, their health and safety and they need to be able to have some accountability and they have to have their players accountable and it’s not gonna happen.”ESPN reported on Friday that Arians had privately asked the NFL to change its concussion policy, saying that the league should require players to undergo a concussion testing program.
