You’re a career counselor, a career development consultant, or an occupational therapist and you need to know how to build a portfolio of clients to get paid for your services.
Your skills are often in demand, but you’re also trying to build an organization that can help you build a career and be a part of the solution.
You need to understand how to market yourself and make sure you have the right people to do the job for you.
Career consultants can help with all of these skills.
They have different skillsets and some are better suited to an office setting than others.
But if you can apply your skills and knowledge to help you grow your career and make your company and your organization more successful, you’ll be well-prepared to help clients get paid.
1.
Understand the job market.
You don’t have to be a professional, but understanding the job markets that you might be asked to help build is helpful for career consultants.
What types of jobs do you see that you can help people with?
What do you do to help them?
Are they hiring?
How do you think they are hiring?
Are you looking for a specific job or do you need help finding one?
Are there other opportunities?
Do you have a list of potential clients?
Are the people you are looking for likely to accept you?
How are you going to work with them?
What skills do you have to offer?
2.
Identify your clients.
When you’re looking for clients, you can often find a lot of work in the areas that are most in demand.
How do the people that you’re working with actually get paid?
What’s the likelihood that they’re willing to pay you?
What types are they seeking?
You may need to be more specific and narrow your search.
For example, if you’re thinking of a career-development consulting position, you may want to focus on the type of work that you need, the type that people are looking to hire for, and how that type of job is paid.
You may also need to ask the company if they have any job openings or are looking at other opportunities.
If they’re not interested in a specific type of client, you could also search the company’s online resume or job boards to see what jobs are available and what people are hiring for.
You’ll also want to know the company is an accredited job-search site.
The more people that are looking, the more you’ll find people who are able to offer you the right services.
3.
Choose a client.
Career consulting can be a lot like selling a car.
If you have all of the information you need and the right business and industry knowledge, you’re going to be able to get the job done.
But it’s important to take the time to get to know your client before you start negotiating.
If your company’s job posting or job board doesn’t give you the information that you want, you need someone who knows your business and the industry you are in. 4.
Choose the right person.
You can get a good handle on the job-market before you hire anyone.
If a job-seeker is looking for someone to build their resume, you don’t want to hire someone who’s just starting out, and you don.
You want to go with someone who has been working in that field for a long time and has the right skills and experience.
5.
Get started with a good resume.
Once you’ve selected your clients and their specific industry, you will want to get them on a resume.
Make sure that the job you’re doing for them is relevant to the company.
You’re not hiring for a job that doesn’t exist.
If someone’s applying for a part-time job, for example, you should make sure that you are asking them to write a resume that’s relevant to that particular part-timing position.
6.
Choose your client.
When it comes to finding a job, you have several choices.
You could take a look at all of your job postings and find a job you like, but that’s a risk you shouldn’t take.
You might find that you have clients who are looking in particular fields, but they’re just not working in those areas.
Or you could search through the resume of someone who is looking to be an executive and make a connection.
If that person doesn’t have a specific position in mind, you might want to ask them to give you a call.
7.
Determine your salary.
You have to consider your job as you go.
You should know how much you’ll get paid, how many people will be looking for that job, and what type of income you’ll need to get that job.
8.
Deter if you’ll work for free or pay for a fee.
When negotiating for a contract, it’s a good idea to consider how much it will cost you to work for a company.
If the company says it will pay
